Pym and Murdoch were exceptional writers. They wrote about the accommodations, as well as the self-destructive behavior, in which women engage to survive as the (Beauvoir’s) Second Sex in a man’s world. Pym describes repressed Excellent Women, who are always under appreciated. Murdoch limns the lives of renegade women, who often “dance on the edge of the cliff.”
